All About Teletherapy

Teletherapy is the online delivery of mental health therapy services via two-way video conferencing. Telemental Health sessions are similar to in-person mental health sessions. However, instead of sitting in the same room, you and the therapist interact via live video conferencing. You will need access to the internet and a confidential space place to meet.

Things to consider for a confidential space:

  • Is the space private?

  • Can other people hear you?

  • Will others who have access to the space and respect your request for privacy and/or not enter the room?

  • Can others outside the room hear you talking?

  • If so, can you create white noise with a fan or other form of background noise? (Preferably placed outside the doorway of the room you’re in)

  • Consider using headphones or earbuds.

It is important to feel comfortable and safe in the space you are using. If you have a hard time finding confidential space, additional ideas are:

  • Laundry Room

  • Walk-In-Closet

  • Basement

  • Attic

  • Your car parked in a safe and private spot (Private does not mean secluded. Please make sure you are in a safe location!)

Technical Setup:

  • A laptop or desktop computer is ideal.

  • If you’re using a tablet or phone, please prop up the device so that it is stable and that the camera is about level with your eyes

  • Please make sure that you are well lit and don’t have a bright light source directly behind you

  • Close out of any programs you don’t need which use your Internet connection.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
